1985Mexican Libertad Silver Onza

The Mexican Silver Libertad series began in 1982 as Mexico's official silver bullion coin program. The 1985 issue shown here represents one of the early years of this iconic series. The obverse features the Winged Victory (Victoria Alada) statue from Mexico's Independence Monument, symbolizing liberty and freedom. The coin displays 'PLATA PURA' (pure silver) and the Mexican mint mark 'Mo'. This series was created to compete with other world silver bullion coins like the American Silver Eagle and Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. The Libertad series has become highly collectible, with early years like 1985 being particularly sought after by collectors and investors. The coin shows excellent detail and lustrous surfaces typical of Mexican mint quality from this period.
